Where we left off: The entirety of Firehouse 51 found themselves stuck inside a burning building, with the boiler poised to blow and cause an even bigger problem.
Naturally, the question is who (if anyone) won’t make it out of the fire slash explosion alive. Will the series kill off another main character? (You can re-watch the cliffhanger and read our prediction here.)
Who’s out:
- There are no confirmed cast departures—yet. Obviously, NBC isn’t letting anyone know who, if anybody, is exiting in the season premiere.
- And Kara Killmer, whose character Sylvie Brett accepted a marriage proposal in last season’s finale, is still displayed in the promotional ads and key art as being part of the cast.
Who’s in:
- Alberto Rosende (Shadowhunters) will recur as Blake Gallo, a firefighter from another house who catches the attention of the team at Firehouse 51.
- Chicago Fire is adding a new paramedic this season, but only as a recurring character, not a main cast member. It’s yet to be announced who is playing that role.

What we know so far (SPOILERS):
- The character who dies will not be Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), or Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) as all three have been mentioned by name in relation to other stories later in season 8.
- Casey and Severide are involved in the Blake story, while Stella is supporting Severide as he moves forward with his life, according to early spoilers from TVLine.
