Chicago PD season, 7 episode 2 preview: Assets

What should fans look for in this week’s episode of Chicago PD? Get ready for Assets with our Chicago PD season 7, episode 2 preview.
Tonight’s episode of Chicago PD will feature two of Intelligence’s detectives going undercover against a crime boss, as well as the introduction of a new character.
The premise of the episode revolves around Detective Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Officer Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) going undercover as drug dealers to help take down a shady criminal. Since Intelligence doesn’t leave any stone unturned, the promo shows Detective Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) and Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) backing up their partners.
Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) is also shown participating in the sting operation, which opens up discussion amongst fans. Is his feud with Jay in the past? Or is there still some anger brewing beneath the surface? If there is some tension between the two, it will likely show up in arguments or subtle hints during the case, as Chicago PD has often done when characters are fighting.

Another sore subject for fans and the 21st district? Antonio Dawson’s (Jon Seda) departure. Since his character was written out of the show by going back to rehab, it’s tough to say if his name will come up again. Though PD makes it a point to use former character’s names in certain storylines – e.g: the mention of Justin Voight (Josh Segarra) during Hank’s swearing to Jay that he did not kill Brian Kelton (John C. McGinley) – so perhaps Antonio will be mentioned down the road.
Now, about that new character. Lisseth Chavez will make her debut in “Assets” as undercover officer Vanessa Rojas. According to her casting, she’s a street-smart, wise, and edgy cop who is down to take names. Seems like she would be a good fit with the Intelligence Unit, and the episode’s photos show her working alongside Hailey and Kevin.
Interim Superintendent Jason Crawford (Paul Adelstein) makes a more formal appearance in tonight’s episode too when he sits down with Voight. Whether or not it’s case related or about police politics remains unclear, but hopefully Chicago PD will answer that question accordingly.
The final thing that will be focused on in the second episode is Adam Ruzek’s (Patrick John Flueger) arrest. Although Voight bailed him out in the season 7 premiere, he will still have his day in court. NBC’s description says that Hank gets Adam leniency by using his connections. Hopefully that goes smoothly, because poor Adam does not need to end up back in prison; as that never ends well for Intelligence anyway.
