Chicago Med season 5, episode 8 preview: Too Close to the Sun
What should fans watch for in tonight’s Chicago Med? Get ready for Too Close to the Sun with our Chicago Med season 5, episode 8 preview.
After last week’s bonkers Chicago Med, tonight’s episode seems to have calmed things down a bit, but it’s still going to come with plenty of personal drama.
The official description for “Too Close to the Sun” reveals that a “member of the Med family” gets assaulted and is brought into the Emergency Department.
The use of that phrase indicates that it won’t be a main character; if so, NBC would have just used their name—that would have been more attention-grabbing. And that would have been splashed all over this week’s promos.
So which supporting character is going to have a bad day? It’s not that hard to figure out.

Remember that earlier this season, Noah Sexton (recurring guest star Roland Buck III) took in a girl who had been beaten up in an attempted gang initiation.
Gang members don’t just ignore things like that. It’s almost certain they’re going to find Noah and get what they consider to be their revenge. Not only is that bad for him, but that’s going to give a heart attack to his sister April (Yaya DaCosta).
Hopefully Noah’s injuries aren’t too severe, but watch how Chicago Med handles this subplot. Noah has always been a character who’s so flippant, and more than a little self-centered.
Will this be a wake-up call for him, in addition to a very bad week? And will this start another run where April’s storyline is essentially taking care of somebody else’s problems? After how much time the show spent having her and Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) deal with his sister last season, the Noah story could turn into deja vu.

The main storyline in “Too Close to the Sun” involves Ben (guest star Charles Malik Whitfield), who hooked up with Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) last week. Something goes wrong for him as well and that makes Maggie understandably upset.
But here’s the thing: how much do Chicago Med fans care? We hardly know Ben. In fact, Maggie hardly knows him! This feels like a storyline that would have been better served in a few weeks, after we’d seen their relationship develop and became invested in him. Right now, it doesn’t have the same impact; we only care about him because we know Maggie likes him.
And besides, hasn’t Maggie had enough bad news recently?
Between these two stories, there’s going to be plenty of angst going around the Emergency Department this week—and neither have anything to do with any actual cases coming in the door. Hopefully our team can catch a break someplace, because right now they’ve got more personal problems than anyone deserves, and they still have to save patients!
