Former Chicago PD star Elias Koteas will be a recurring guest star in Goliath season 4, which is also the Amazon Prime Video show’s final season.

Chicago PD fan favorite Elias Koteas has joined the recurring cast of Amazon‘s Goliath. He’ll appear in multiple Goliath season 4 episodes when the show returns later in 2020.

The drama is created by David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) and stars Billy Bob Thornton as renegade lawyer Billy McBride. In the fourth season, which is also the show’s last, McBride’s case is said to be “a timely global crisis.”

Koteas, who starred as Detective Alvin Olinsky on Chicago PD until his character was killed off in the second-to-last episode of season 4, will also be portraying a lawyer.

His character Tom True is a name partner in the law firm Margolis & True, but begins to butt heads with some of their very powerful clients.

This is Elias Koteas’s second major TV role since producers let him go from the One Chicago series; he also was cast as a series regular in the SyFy project Cipher last spring, but that show didn’t get past the pilot stage.

His new role in Goliath season 4 ironically puts him together with several actors who have One Chicago connections.

One of the lawyers at Tom’s firm is senior associate Robert Bettencourt, played by Brandon Scott. Scott co-starred in the Dick Wolf-produced podcast Hunted, written by Law & Order: Special Victims Unit alum Jeffrey Baker, last year.

And one of the series regulars on Goliath is Tania Raymonde, who had originally been cast as a detective on Chicago PD, but was replaced after the backdoor pilot. On the Amazon series she portrays Brittany Gold, a prostitute who is friends with McBride and occasionally helps out with his cases.

Here’s the trailer for the third season to give you an idea of what you can expect from this gritty quasi-legal drama:

The big news, though, is that Elias Koteas has a new project and while it’s not a starring role, we know that fans will definitely be able to see it.

The caveat is that since it streams on Amazon Prime Video, you’ll need an Amazon Prime membership in order to watch. However, Prime usually offers some sort of free trial and Amazon has on occasion made episodes or teasers available to non-members, so if you can’t or don’t want to shell out the money, keep your eyes open later this year for those kinds of opportunities.

Whatever happens to his character, it will certainly be a better exit for Elias Koteas than the one he had on Chicago PD, where Olinsky wound up taking the fall—literally and metaphorically—for his best friend Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). Producer Rick Eid later explained that the writers came up with the idea of killing Olinsky off to be a consequence for Voight in season 5.

The Goliath season 4 premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but the show will return in 2020.
