Former Chicago PD star Sophia Bush has landed the starring role in Good Sam. Here’s what you need to know about the CBS medical drama pilot.

Big news for Sophia Bush fans: the Chicago PD alum has nabbed her next series regular role. Sophia Bush will star in the CBS pilot Good Sam, a medical drama in which she plays the title character.

Sophia’s character Sam is a talented surgeon who is thrown into the spotlight when she’s forced to take over the Chief of Surgery position from her comatose boss. When he wakes up and wants to resume surgery, she has to deal with the pompous jerk who never acknowledged her skill.

Get this: that jerk also happens to be her father.

According to Deadline, Sam has always worked as second in command to her father Griff, who’s described as overbearing and downright impossible. When this wayward opportunity falls into her lap, she jumps at the chance to take over his leadership role.

But Sam will fight tooth and nail to keep her top spot—even if that means having to supervise her father in the operating room.

If Good Sam goes to series, this will be Sophia Bush’s first series regular role since she starred on Chicago PD for four seasons as Detective Erin Lindsay. But it’s not her first time doing a CBS pilot. Fans will remember that she also starred in Surveillance as a high-ranking NSA agent, but the pilot wasn’t picked up.

This medical drama role sounds more like a Grey’s Anatomy situation than a Chicago PD one, so we’re excited to see what it means for Sophia. She’s not done medical dramas before, so it will be nice for fans to see her in something a little different.

Since her departure from Chicago PD at the end of season 4, Sophia Bush has had guest spots on Jane the Virgin and This is Us, and will be seen in a recurring role in the upcoming Hulu series Love, Victor. In addition to acting, Sophia is an activist for voting rights, and has her own podcast called A Work in Progress.
