What should fans look for in this week’s episode of Chicago PD? Get ready for Intimate Violence with our Chicago PD season 7, episode 16 preview.

Tonight’s episode of Chicago PD deals with one detective’s personal connection to a complicated case; meanwhile, the rest of the Intelligence unit hunts down answers, as well as a killer.

“Intimate Violence” throws Detective Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) into the lion’s den, so to speak, when a robbery points to domestic violence as its leads to a homicide investigation.

As she confronts her tumultuous past, other members of the 21st District will be tracking down witnesses that could help them catch the person or persons responsible for the robbery-turned-homicide.

Fans haven’t seen a Hailey-centric episode since “The Devil You Know” which had her take drastic measures against Darius Walker (recurring guest star Michael Beach). Now she’s back in the limelight—but will it be another negative case that sends her further down the dark road she’s already begun?

It’s hard to say, given that her abusive home life hasn’t been connected to a case since Chicago PD season 6’s “True or False.” There viewers saw her open up about it to her boyfriend at the time, Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger).

Since Upzek hasn’t been a thing since “Sacrifice” maybe this will the chance Upstead fans have been waiting for—as Hailey and her partner Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) have been there for each other day in and day out this season.

Hopefully she’ll confide in him during this episode, since Halstead and Upton have yet to do the “thing that works between them” this season.

It seems like whatever goes down in the next Chicago PD requires not only that the whole squad spring into action, but that they confront the issues of said case in-house too. The promotional photos show the group convening at the crime scene and the district bullpen, not to mention out and about on the streets of Chicago.

Here’s hoping Hailey can keep a relatively clear head to work the case from start to finish. Of course, knowing how Sergeant Hank Voight’s (Jason Beghe) team can bend the rules, things may get a little chaotic before they calm down. Could she take one more step toward turning into him, even though Voight has explicitly said he didn’t want her to do that?

Plus, will Chicago PD give audiences any fallout from the big scenes in last week’s crossover? We had two big emotional bombshells dropped—but with this being an Upton-centric story, will we not get an update on Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) clearly still working through issues?

After all, that’s what happened in “Center Mass” when Burgess only got one major scene despite just having had her miscarriage the week before. But we’ll see where everyone’s emotional health is at when “Intimate Violence” airs tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
