Chicago PD’s Brian Geraghty won’t return for The Alienist: The Angel of Darkness.

The Alienist: The Angel of Darkness is officially going forward without Chicago PD actor Brian Geraghty.

TNT formally announced the Alienist sequel on Thursday, and Geraghty—who portrayed future President Theodore Roosevelt in the Emmy-winning first series—was not on the cast list.

His absence was somewhat expected; the actor was a series regular last season, but Roosevelt wasn’t one of the three central characters.

Geraghty also had a busy schedule, having reprised his role as Sean Roman in a crossover between PD and Chicago Fire, starring in USA’s Briarpatch, and landing a lead role in the new series The Big Sky—which was officially picked up by ABC on Thursday as well.

The Alienist: Angel of Darkness picks up with Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) having become a private detective and investigating a kidnapping, which leads her to reunite with John Moore (Luke Evans) and Laszlo Kreisler (Daniel Bruhl).

It will premiere Sunday, July 26 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on TNT.

Geraghty, meanwhile, will next be seen in The Big Sky where instead of playing a police officer, he’s portraying a serial killer. Based on the novels of C.J. Box and produced by David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies), the thriller follows two private detectives chasing down a truck driver who’s abducting young women in Montana.

He plays the aforementioned truck driver, Ronald Pergman, while the cast includes Katheryn Winnick (Vikings, Wu Assassins), Kylie Bunbury (Law & Order: SVU, Pitch) and Ryan Phillippe (Shooter, Secrets & Lies). Though the show was ordered by ABC, it doesn’t have a premiere date yet, as fall TV schedules remain in flux.

While Brian Geraghty isn’t returning to The Alienist for season 2, Ted Levine (Monk), Matthew Shear and Douglas Smith are, with Melanie Field and Rosy McEwen joining the cast. The trailer for the new season is below.
