Dr. Connor Rhodes resigned from the hospital
Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) quit Chicago Med after confirming what he, and the audience, had suspected since the end of season 4: Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling) had murdered his father, thinking it would clear the way for her and Connor to be together again.
When Connor rejected her, a now completely crazy Ava attempted suicide right in front of him, and died shortly thereafter. Connor decided that after being accused of murder, and dating a sociopath, and losing his dad, he needed a fresh start. Fans haven’t heard anything about him since.
In reality, actors Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling were let go from the cast after season 4 and just returned for a one-off appearance to wrap up Connor and Ava’s story.

Dr. Crockett Marcel replaced Connor, wrecked April and Choi’s relationship
Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) was introduced in the season 5 premiere as a night shift doctor and shortly was promoted to literally fill the vacancy Connor left behind. He also took charge of the hybrid OR that Connor created, so it was no surprise when fans began to compare the two characters.
However, the new guy’s biggest storyline was personal: he flirted with April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta), and when April got upset with her boyfriend Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee), she kissed Crockett. April went on to accept Choi’s marriage proposal and didn’t tell him about the kiss until she was hospitalized. Choi broke up with her, and picked not one but two fights with Crockett, as April continued to pine for her now ex-fiance.
Natalie and Will didn’t reconcile this season
Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) survived the car accident from last season but lost some of her memory, so she believed her boyfriend Phillip (recurring guest star Ian Harding) when he said they were engaged. Natalie eventually called the faux-engagement off, though, and recovering her memory sent her running back to ex-fiance Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) again.
Will, however, told Natalie that he’d realized he was better off without her after all their breakups and makeups. He met Dr. Hannah Asher (recurring guest star Jessy Schram) at a safe injection site, and went from confronting her about her drug addiction to sleeping with her. Will and Hannah are now dating, while Natalie’s now thinking about Crockett.
And Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) married Ben, a man she met during her chemotherapy. So hey, somebody did get married, just not anyone the audience expected.
