Firehouse 51 is set to welcome a handful of new firefighters as Chicago Fire season 15 begins, but not every new addition will be sticking around for the long haul. In fact, there is a very good chance that one of the most recognizable stars in the bunch could exit before the premiere even ends.
One Chicago Center was first to report that Shadowhunters star Matthew Daddario will be appearing in the upcoming 15th season of Chicago Fire, playing one of the new firefighter candidates assigned to Firehouse 51. His casting was first confirmed via new series regular Da’Vinchi, who took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes photo of himself alongside Daddario and returning star Brandon Larracuente, and NBC has since teased his arrival in the first trailer for season 15.
Fans are excited to see Daddario suit up as a member of the CFD, but it looks like his time on Chicago Fire might be short-lived.
Daddario is a pretty notable name, and it’s still quite surprising that NBC didn’t announce his casting in any capacity before Da’Vinchi let the cat out of the bag via Instagram. What’s even more interesting is that production is now underway on the sixth episode of season 15, and there have been no photos or videos of Daddario on set. In fact, there have been several videos to release across social media taken from the set that feature shots of Da’Vinchi and other firefighter candidates responding to calls, yet none of these leaked photos or videos have included a glimpse of Daddario.
Daddario has also failed to appear in any further posts from Da’Vinchi or other cast members on social media, which was shared while the Chicago Fire season 15 premiere was in production. We have seen Daddario in the promo for the premiere, so we know that’s the episode he filmed for the show, but beyond that there have been no indications that his firefighter candidate will be sticking around.
What this seems to suggest is that perhaps Daddario’s character will be the first of the new probie class to be dismissed and taken out of the rotation at 51.
We know that Kidd delivers an impassioned speech during the season 15 premiere to a candidate in which she notes that it can be easy to step over other people when it feels like life or death, but you live or die together. The context of this conversation and the individual it’s directed towards are left unclear via the framing of the trailer, but we have to wonder if perhaps Daddario’s character will react poorly when responding to a call, making a decision that puts another member of the team at risk and thus leads to his dismissal.
Could it be that she’s telling this to Da’Vinchi’s character Marcus Blake and that she’s speaking to him about Daddario’s character? We see the two probies arriving together in the season 15 trailer, so perhaps they were already friends from the academy or even before they entered the CFD, and the dismissal of Daddario’s character hits Blake hard, resulting in Kidd’s speech. That’s certainly looking like a strong possibility, which would make sense given that we have not seen Daddario on set since the premiere.
Hopefully, we’re wrong, as we’d love nothing more than to see Daddario stick around for several episodes; however, we’d encourage fans not to get too attached to his character.
