It's the time of the year when all One Chicago fans can sit back and relax. There aren't any new episodes for the rest of the summer hiatus and until the new seasons begin rolling out in the fall. That means, all there's left to do is rewatch old episodes and make predictions on what could come next. Thankfully, the Chicago Fire season 14 finale gave us plenty of material to think about.
The final episode of the season kept us on our toes with a flash-forward countdown that slowly caught up to real time with the Firehouse 51 team taking on a particularly dangerous call. Throughout the episode, the gang's futures were hinted, whether it was starting over with a new home or considering a career change, but an explosion put the lives of almost the whole team on the line.
While we already know which characters will survive to see Chicago Fire season 15, thanks to some already announced new deals, we're left to stress out all summer about who could possibly be the latest death in the series. One thing we know for sure, the show could be bringing back a key character from season 14 for an even bigger role after making a surprise visit in the finale.

Isaiah could have a bigger role in Chicago Fire season 15
Before taking on the call that put their lives in danger, Severide and Kidd received an unexpected visit from Isaiah, who returned in the Chicago Fire season 14 finale after a multi-episode absence. Isaiah had been written out after he returned to Cleveland to stay with a friend of his mother's and to be closer to his mom during her recovery. However, by the finale, that changed.
Isaiah initially lied to Severide and Kidd that he was simply in town for a visit, but when Kidd called his guardian Lydia to confirm, she discovered Isaiah had snuck away. As it turns out, his mother can't take care of him and he doesn't want to stay with Lydia in Cleveland. He wants to return to Chicago and move back in with Severide and Kidd, going back to how it was earlier this season.
Without making any promises, Severide and Kidd agree to speak with Isaiah's mother about arrangements after their latest shift, which just so happens to be the dangerous call with the explosion that lands Severide stuck inside a building and Kidd on the receiving end of the explosion's flames. Obviously, that trip to Cleveland will be postponed until possible injuries heal.
It's even more ironic that Severide and Kidd's lives are on the line just as they're contemplating taking Isaiah in on a more permanent basis since both Isaiah and Kidd were pushing Severide to seriously consider taking the job opportunity at the CFI. A new role in arson investigation would prevent putting himself in danger with every shift. Considering what happened, his choice could be even clearer.
Chicago Fire season 15 has a lot of questions to answer, beginning with who survives the explosion. But will Severide and Kidd possibly pursue adoption as a choice for Isaiah rather than simply being his foster parents? Either way, Isaiah's currently primed to become a bigger fixture in their lives and, therefore, the show. Stellaride could be one step closer to getting the family they've dreamed about.
