Chicago Fire set photos may have just spoiled who might not survive the season 14 finale

Chicago Fire season 15 might not premiere until October 7, but new photos from the set may have just spoiled the outcome of the season 14 finale. 

To recap, Chicago Fire season 14 came to an end with a cliffhanger that left nearly every character’s future on the show up in the air courtesy of a season-ending call that ended in disaster. While responding to a building fire, things quickly turned south with the men and women of Firehouse 51 ending the season attempting to flee the fire before it was too late. 

Kidd, Vasquez, Herrmann, and Ballard were racing to get off the roof before it collapsed, only to be engulfed in a ball of fire caused by an explosion within the building. Said explosion sent the roof caving down upon those in the building, which included Severide, Cruz, Mouch, Capp, and Tony, leaving them trapped with Mayday calls coming through over the radio. It was a moment that left fans speechless and fearing the worst. 

All summer long, fans have been speculating about who might not make it out of the season-ending fire alive, and there has been a real sense that season 15 could begin with a major death. This is still a possibility; however, new set photos are giving fans a reason to breathe a sigh of relief.

Chicago Fire season 15 set photos confirm the fates of 5 key characters

With filming underway on Chicago Fire season 15, fans have once again begun to flock to the set in hopes of getting a photo with the actors behind their favorite characters. This included one group of fans who caught up with several members of the Chicago Fire cast outside the firehouse in Chicago that serves as the backdrop for Firehouse 51 on the show. 

In one of the shared photos circulating on social media, fans pose with several members of the season 15 cast, including Miranda Rae Mayo, Brandon Larracuente, Christian Stolte, and David Eigenberg. While the photos don’t spoil anything directly, the fact that the quartet are all dressed in character and filming scenes at Firehouse 51 suggests that the four will all be making it out of the season-ending fire and that we don’t have to worry about Kidd, Vasquez, Mouch, or Herrmann perishing in the fire. 

Of that group, Kidd was the only character whose future was assured thanks to Mayo inking a new deal for season 15 during the offseason. Vasquez never seemed to be in danger, but fans were really concerned about Herrmann and Mouch, who had emerged as the two characters fans feared were in the most danger of being killed off. This fear was due in large part to the fact that the pair have been part of the show’s run since season 1 and due to the way in which the finale wove in shots of their wives in a montage that hinted that one of the women was about to be widowed by the fire. 

That leads us to Joe Minoso’s character, Joe Cruz. Cruz’s wife was also included in said montage, which left fans to fear that he was in just as much danger as Mouch and Herrmann. Thankfully, it does seem like Cruz will also survive the fire, though we do wonder if he might be injured and whether that injury might be used as part of Minoso’s exit storyline. 

While Minoso was spotted on set and also took time to pose for photos with fans, we do not see him wearing his usual Firehouse 51 uniform like the rest of his co-stars. Instead, Minoso is wearing a more casual ensemble that suggests he’s not working on shift alongside the rest of the team.

We’ll have to see if the fan photos were simply taken before Minoso had changed into his wardrobe for the episode or if Cruz was indeed donning civilian clothes due to the fact that he was injured and therefore has not been cleared to return to active duty. 

4 Chicago Fire characters’ fates remain unclear

While the new set photos confirm that Cruz, Mouch, Herrmann, Kidd, and Vasquez all survive the season-ending fire, there are four characters who are not seen in any of the fan photos: Severide, Capp, Tony, and Ballard. 

Of that group, we know that Severide will survive, as Taylor Kinney signed a new contract to return as a series regular in season 15. We also know that Randy Flagler posted about heading to set for filming, which seems to suggest that Capp should make it out of the fire as well—though that is unconfirmed, and he could have been heading out to set to film Capp’s final scenes. 

The only two members of the cast we haven’t seen or heard from yet are Leroy S. Williams III (Ballard) and Anthony Ferraris (Tony). Of this duo, we have to worry most about Ballard, who seems the most expendable of the duo as a more recent addition who has not been part of any central storylines. 

Now, there is a chance that everyone will survive the fire, and we certainly hope that will be the case. However, it seems that Capp, Tony, and Ballard are the three characters in the most danger heading into the premiere at this point.
