When will Chicago Fire season 15 premiere on NBC?
Chicago Fire season 15 will premiere on Wednesday, October 7, at 9/8c on NBC. This premiere date was slightly later than we had anticipated, as it was looking like the One Chicago shows would return in late September, but NBC has since confirmed that the trio of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD will premiere the first week of October.
One Chicago Wednesdays will remain intact, with Chicago Med opening the night at 8/7c, followed by Chicago Fire at 9/8c, and ending with Chicago PD at 10/9c. New episodes will also remain available to stream the next day on Peacock for those unable to watch live on Wednesday nights!

Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo are the only Chicago Fire stars confirmed for season 15
Heading into season 15, there are only two members of the Chicago Fire cast whose involvement in the season has been confirmed ahead of time.
Ahead of the season 14 finale, it was announced that Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo were among five longtime One Chicago stars who had signed new deals to return for the 2026-27 season. The news definitely pleased Stellaride fans, as it guaranteed that both Severide and Kidd would be back in action for season 15 and also meant that the duo would survive the season-ending cliffhanger that left the lives of nearly every main character up in the air.
Also expected back for the season are Hanako Greensmith (Violet Mikami) and Jocelyn Hudon (Lyla Novak), as Violet and Novak were both safely outside and watched the horror ensue. They were accompanied by Dermot Mulroney’s Dom Pascal, who had ridden along with Severide to the scene and was outside when the mayday calls came through. While Mulroney’s status for the upcoming season is unclear, we expect that he’ll at least return for the season 15 premiere, and there has been no official word of his departure, so we should see him back as a series regular.
Season 15 is also expected to see the return of Hero Hunter as Isaiah after the season 14 finale saw Isaiah returning to Chicago to ask to stay with Severide and Kidd. If that storyline is seen through, we could be seeing more of Isaiah in season 15!
Chicago Fire season 15 could bring a major cast exit
After Chicago Fire season 14 ended with a cliffhanger that left the lives of nearly every member of Firehouse 51 up in the air, there is a really good chance that season 15 will open with a major death. This is the first season in years in which there are several key members of the cast whose future on the show is unclear as a result of the cliffhanger.
While we know that Severide and Kidd will both survive and be back for season 15, it is unclear whether David Eigenberg (Christopher Herrmann), Joe Miñoso (Joe Cruz), Christian Stolte (Mouch), Brandon Larracuente (Sal Vasquez), Randy Flagler (Capp), or Anthony Ferraris (Tony) could be leaving the show.
The good thing is that no cast exit has been announced ahead of the start of production; however, it’s unlikely that NBC would announce any major exit ahead of time in order to prevent spoiling the outcome of the season 14 finale.
There are 2 Chicago Fire stars we aren’t expecting back in season 15
Outside of the main ensemble, there are two characters we are not expecting to see back for Chicago Fire season 15.
The first of the pair is Michael Bradway, who exited the show abruptly after season 13 due to his casting in the Amazon original series Every Year After. Fans had hoped to see his character, Jack Damon, back for season 15 after the door was left open for his return; however, his return looks unlikely following the renewal of Every Year After for season 2.
Another character we’re not expecting to see back in season 15 is Chief Andre Hopkins. Chief Hopkins was introduced late in season 14 with legendary actor Rob Morgan joining the cast in a recurring role. Ahead of the season 14 finale, Chief Hopkins officially left Firehouse 51, and Morgan hinted to One Chicago Center that there were no active plans for him to return in season 15—though he did keep the door open for a potential return.
Miranda Rae Mayo has warned fans no one is safe
While Kidd and Severide will both be a part of season 15 after Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo inked new deals to return, Mayo has made it clear to the fans that no one is safe.
“Maybe we’ll still be on the show, but who knows if we’ll still be on shift,” Mayo remarked during an interview after the finale, hinting that fans shouldn’t just automatically assume Kidd and Severide won’t be injured on the job.
It was a fair warning to give, as there is always a chance that Kidd or Severide could be injured on the call and sidelined from duty to start the season. Hopefully, injuries will be the worst of the fallout and everyone will make it out of the finale alive, as our biggest fear is more about the show losing a key cast member than the potential of a character being sidelined for a while to recover from an injury!
Chicago Fire season 15 production began mid-July
While Chicago Fire season 15 won't arrive until October, production on the new season began in mid-July. Longtime director of photography Anthony J. Lullo took to Instagram on July 15 to announce that production had begun, sharing a pair of behind-the-scenes photos to commenorate the occasion, including a shot of Molly's bar and of production badges for the crew.
Filming on the season began roughly a week later, with filming kicking off around July 21, with the cast returning to set to begin work on the new season!
Chicago Fire season 15 will make history
With the season 15 premiere, Chicago Fire will become the longest-running scripted firefighter drama of all-time! It's an honor that had been held by the UK drama London’s Burning, which ran for 14 seasons from 1988 to 2002.
Not only will Chicago Fire season 15 make a bit of TV history with the show becoming the longest-running firefighter drama in television history, but it will also bring about a major milestone for the show as well. Early in season 15, Chicago Fire will pass the 300th episode mark, which we expect will bring about a few surprises to commemorate the moment.
Episode 300 is expected to air as the fifth episode of the season, meaning it should arrive in early November.
