If Chicago Fire fans were hoping to get new information and teases from NBC via the official synopsis for the season 15 premiere, we’ve got some bad news for you.
With the season premieres of the One Chicago shows now two weeks away, NBC has dropped the updated primetime schedule for the first week of October. In doing so, NBC finally released the official episode synopsis for all three One Chicago shows. Typically the synopsis for the premiere will offer up teases of what’s to come in the first episode, and that was indeed the case. Unfortunately, the Chicago Fire season 15 premiere synopsis didn’t exactly offer up information that is new to fans. Instead, NBC doubled down on two storylines we already anticipated coming via previously released promotional materials.
Let's break the synopsis down quickly.
So the first storyline teased in the season 15 premiere synopsis is the promise that, "Firehouse 51 faces the fallout of the warehouse fire." It goes without saying that this is not new information, as all summer we’ve spent time thinking about the warehouse fire and how it will play out when season 15 premieres.
Season 14 left us stunned by putting the lives of several members of Firehouse 51 on the line when a warehouse fire took a turn for the worse. We’ve been waiting to know what the outcome of the fire will be, and the promotional materials released by NBC have gradually been confirming the fates of several characters while making us worry more about others. It’s no surprise that the premiere will put a major focus on the fallout of the warehouse fire, both in finally revealing how the call plays out and also by exploring the aftermath that follows the incident.
We still don’t know if everyone will make it out of the warehouse fire unscathed, and there is a real concern someone’s life could be on the line. If someone dies on the call or is injured, that’s something that is going to have a ripple effect and impact the team, and it’s going to be interesting to see what that looks like.
In addition to the fallout of the warehouse fire, the season 15 premiere is going to put a big focus on the injection of new blood entering Firehouse 51. As the premiere synopsis teases, “the team welcomes a new crop of probies into the fold,” meaning we’re going to meet the new probies right out of the gate and quickly see how they blend into the season’s storylines.
NBC has yet to confirm the circumstances behind this wave of new probies after so many cutbacks in the CFD, but we’re excited to see some new faces arriving at 51 and to see how they shake things up. Newcomers always present the opportunity to explore fun storylines both through the new characters and also through their interactions with other characters.
Considering that all signs point towards Kidd being the one to oversee this new group of probies, it’s going to create a new challenge for Kidd, and we’re more than a little excited to see how she rises to it. Sure, Kidd has plenty of experience working with newcomers to 51, but we’ve never seen her tasked with overseeing a group of probies within the CFD. What we’re really hoping to see is one of her Girls on Fire recruits in the mix, though that might not be in the cards at the moment given the candidates we’ve been introduced to so far have all been male.
Of course, Kidd won’t be the only one impacted by these new probies, as it will make room for some fun dynamics with other characters as well. For one thing, Vasquez will no longer be the new guy at the firehouse, and this is likely going to push him in new ways, especially since he’s not far off in age from some of these new candidates, which could very well be where the promise of callbacks to the days of Severide and Casey’s rivalry could come into play. We could absolutely see Vasquez and Da’Vinchi’s Marcus Blake becoming entangled in a rivalry, leading to the pair butting heads on calls. We loved seeing Severide and Casey’s rivalry develop into friendship as the years went by, but we definitely miss that friendly in-house rivalry and would love to see it reignited with Vasquez and a newcomer!
With NBC doubling down on these two storylines, it seems likely these will be the primary focal points for the season 15 premiere, but we’re hoping there might be some surprises along the way as well, which NBC simply wanted to keep close to the vest. We’ll see if that ends up being the case when Chicago Fire season 15 premieres on Wednesday, October 7, at 9/8c on NBC!
