Chicago PD dropped a marriage bombshell (not the one we expected)
Chicago PD has not a particularly smooth track record as of late when it comes to romance. We've watched the relationships between the different officers buckle under professional strain, or break apart due to separation.
This is why the bombshell dropped at the end of the season 11 episode, "Safe Harbor", was such a surprise. So much of the first episode, and the accompanying promo for the season, was spent on Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) and the desire to rectify her marriage with Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), but it turned out that big news was around the corner for the show's other couple.
Burgess and Ruzek are engaged on PD!
Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) are engaged. The former came home to Ruzek and their daughter, Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams), after a dealing with a case of mistreated refugees, and was shocked to see that Ruzek had a ring ready for her.
Ruzek took the ring out from his nightstand and said, with the utmost sincerity:
"Let’s get married. Let’s make it forever."
Burgess was overcome with emotion, but she managed to respond back with "third time's a charm before accepting the ring. The comment, of course, refers to the fact that Burgess and Ruzek have tried to get married in two other instances, but something always got in the way.

Ruzek asked for Burgess' hand in marriage during season 2, but his committment issues led the latter to call the marriage off a season later. Ruzek took another shot in season 7, shortly after Burgess got pregnant from a hook-up, but she again declined, as she felt they weren't supposed to be together.
Burgess and Ruzek have been engaged twice before
One can only hope that the third time is actually a charm for these two, given how much they've had to go through together and as individuals. Both of them have been shot and nearly died on the job, and both had to contend with the nightmare of having their daughter kidnapped.
Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan said that "Safe Harbor" would be a huge episode for Burgess, given that she didn't have a ton to do during the first two episodes of season 11, and she was not kidding.

It'll be interesting to see how Burgess and Ruzek navigate their engagement, given that their IU team member, Upton, is fresh off her divorce and still sorting through her feelings on the matter.
