Finally! Chicago PD was really cooking with gas when it gave us the season 11 episode "Survival", but the momentum drummed up by the Voight-heavy case was stifled by the fact that it was followed up by two weeks of reruns.

The show will be back with a new episode on Wednesday, March 20, and all signs point to there being more Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) than ever. He was very much struck by the kidnapping and abuse that a victim named Noah experienced, and went out of his way to shield the teenager from his abusive family.

Fans have been quick to draw parallels between Voight's protectiveness over Noah and the tragic murder of his own son, Justin), Josh Segarra), and Jason Beghe told TV Insider that there going to be aspects of the character that have never previously been illuminated. The older Voight gets, the more he's willing to reflect on his past.

It's something we caught a glimpse of in the very first episode of the season, when a weary Voight was reluctant to bring in new IU members, and his attempts to console a spiraling Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) led to him admitting that he was unsure of what to do.

Beghe told the outlet that Voight's experience with Noah is forcing him to step back and really look at the consequences of his actions as they relate to police work:

"I think in many ways, he’s becoming aware more than ever, which is an interesting kind of exercise for me as an actor, something that I’ve been trying to do."

Chicago PD 11x07 synopsis

The synopsis for the new episode, titled "The Living and the Dead", reads as follows:

"An ongoing case hits close to home for Voight as Intelligence teams up with an SVU detective to track down a prolific offender."

The SVU detective is an unexpected wrinkle, though it may not be as ambitious as it sounds. There hasn't been a crossover between One Chicago and Law & Order in several years, and the conflicts brought about by the writers and actors strikes meant that both shows had a smaller production window than usual.

The chances of the aforementioned SVU detective being a character from Law & Order: SVU are unlikely, and is more likely an instance of a new character being introduced with a similar title.
