Chicago PD star address Upton S11 death rumors: 'I hope not'
We're getting closer to the end of the line for Hailey Upton (Tracy Spirdakos). The character has held down a corner of Chicago PD for nearly a decade, and while there are still several episodes left in season 11, little has been clarified about her reason for leaving, or what she will ultimately do when she decides to turn her badge in.
The lack of clarity regarding Upton's exit is what has some fans wringing their hands and fearing for the worst. Upton is in a pretty dire place emotionally, especially after her divorce from Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), and there hasn't been much of a suggestion that she is going to be able to move on easily.
Fans worry that Upton will be killed off
This is where the death theory comes into place. There's a growing fear among Chicago PD fans that the show is going to kill Upton's character off in the season 11 finale, as a means of bringing her arc to a tragic close and giving the show its first main character in a half decade.
The theory has become so prevalent that Chicago PD actors are starting to address it during interviews for the upcoming finale. Jason Beghe recently talked to TV Insider about Upton's concluding chapter on the show, and he admitted that he was unsure whether she'd live:
"I don’t think she’s going to die or anything like that. I hope not. I certainly have hope that she’ll be back."
Jason Beghe is hopeful she will survive the S11 finale
Beghe has been doing most of the talking when it comes to promoting the Chicago PD finale, and Tracy Spiridakos has not spoken at all about her decision to leave or her character's fate over the last few months. The most fans have gotten from her are social media posts in which she reflects fondly on her time with the cast and crew.
Beghe's comments may not be ironclad, but he remains steadfast in his hope that Upton will leave on "good terms." Do you think Upton is going to make it out of the season 11 finale alive?
