Following an eight-season run on Chicago PD, Tracy Spiridakos is trading in the chilly streets of Chicago for the picturesque wilderness of the national parks. It seems the setting isn’t the only change in pace fans can expect from Spiridakos’s first project since leaving Chicago PD as Anna Pigeon will be embracing a much more light-hearted and fun tone than that of Chicago PD.

Spiridakos is set to return to the small-screen as the lead of USA Network’s new series Anna Pigeon. The series will see Spiridakos starring as the show’s title character, a former city slicker who becomes a park ranger after a loss changes her life forever. While trying to outrun her past, Anna will throw herself into solving crimes that have taken place within national park grounds, bringing fans a fun spin on the procedural drama.

While fans will once again get to see Spiridakos solving crimes in a character who shares similarities with her Chicago PD character Detective Hailey Upton, the two characters will be very different. The same applies to the tone of the two shows, with Anna Pigeon allowing Spiridakos to step into a series that is far lighter than that of Chicago PD.

“I read the pilot and just completely fell in love with Anna. I love that there are similarities to Upton in certain things, but they’re also really different in a lot of ways. The tone of the show is totally different; it’s much more light-hearted and fun, fun in a different way. [Laughs] I was just really drawn to her grit, and also her sense of humor and sarcasm, and all the other characters all around. I was really excited to get to jump in,” Spiridakos told Deadline in an exclusive interview discussing her new role.

Truthfully, this should be music to Chicago PD fans’ ears. As much as we love Chicago PD, the show can definitely take itself too seriously and lacks the same light-heartedness of its sister series. We get that the show tackles heavy storylines, but that constant intensity can be exhausting and certainly leaves us wanting more fun moments.

Knowing that Anna Pigeon will be bringing a more light-hearted and fun tone than we’ve gotten to see on Chicago PD is exciting, and it’ll be fun to get to see Spiridakos tackle a character who is given the space to have more humor and not take things too seriously.

It’s a role that Spiridakos is having a blast playing and is hoping she’ll get to play for years to come.

“Yeah, I love her. I really love her, and I hope audiences do too. I think there’s so much about her that I love, and there’s so much more to uncover. I could absolutely see myself playing her for a long time. I would love to.”

Chicago PD fans will get to meet Anna later this year when Anna Pigeon season 1 debuts on USA Network!
