Where we left off: Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) was left seriously wounded after she was in Dr. Will Halstead’s (Nick Gehlfuss) car when it was intentionally struck by one of the sons of the gangster he spent most of season 4 informing on.
Meanwhile, Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) might have cancer, and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) may be pregnant by Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee). You can rewatch the cliffhanger and read our thoughts on it here.
Who’s out:
- Colin Donnell, whose Dr. Connor Rhodes was one of two characters dropped by the show after season 4 as part of a “creative decision.” Colin will return in the season 5 premiere to wrap up Connor’s storyline, which left off with him convinced that his father had been murdered by his ex-girlfriend, Dr. Ava Bekker.
- Norma Kuhling, whose Dr. Ava Bekker was the other character let go by the producers under the same creative decision.
Who’s in:
- Dominic Rains (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD) will recur as Dr. Crockett Marcel, a new trauma surgeon who joins the hospital staff. His first appearance will be the season premiere.
- Ian Harding is returning for an unknown number of installments as Phillip Davis, Natalie’s current boyfriend.
- Molly Bernard (Younger) is returning as medical student Elsa Curry.

What we know so far (SPOILERS):
- The season premiere will explain what really happened to Connor’s father Cornelius Rhodes (D.W. Moffett) before Connor leaves the hospital.
- Natalie’s fate has already been revealed in pre-premiere reports; click here if you want to know.
- Even though Connor is leaving, the hybrid OR will remain open. Presumably, since Marcel is also a trauma surgeon, he’ll take over running that room.
Chicago Med season 5 premieres Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
