Need to catch up before Chicago Med season 5? Here’s a quick guide to every important moment to remember from Chicago Med season 4.

Are you caught up with Chicago Med? If you’re not, we’ve provided a Chicago Med season 4 recap so you can quickly refresh your memory about every important moment from last season.

Chicago Med season 4 started out with the departure of Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo) after she fought with Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) over him not letting her know about her father’s dark past.

Reese decided to finish her psychiatric residency in Texas, and was never seen on the show after the premiere.

Though he moved on from losing Reese, Dr. Charles dealt with the reappearance of his ex-wife Caroline (recurring guest star Paula Newsome). Her cancer treatments had caused heart damage, which required risky surgery.

Charles fell back in love with Caroline and when it looked like she was leaving town, was ready to resign from the hospital to be with her. But the two were ultimately remarried in the season finale.

Speaking of weddings, Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) accepted Dr. Will Halstead’s (Nick Gehlfuss) proposal. While trying to find the perfect place to have their wedding, Will ran into Ray Burke and what seemed like a blessing ended up being terrible when he learned that Ray was a criminal—and that he had little choice but to go undercover as an informant for the FBI against him.

In “Death Do Us Part”, Burke’s sons kidnapped Will on his wedding day to perform surgery on Ray. Will was almost shot and killed, and Natalie got the shock of her life when Will showed up to the church and told her that he was going into protective custody.

Though he returned to Chicago a few months later, Natalie broke off her engagement to Will after finding out he lied to her. She quickly cozied up to Phillip Davis (Ian Harding), a recently widowed father. Things moved so fast between Natalie and Phillip that he was going to propose to her.

But just as Phillip was ready to make his move, FBI agent Ingrid Lee told Natalie that Will refused to leave again, even though his life was in danger, because of her. Natalie went to find Will, and the two were talking in his car when it was crashed into by Ray’s vengeful son Tim Burke. Will was left holding a seriously bleeding Natalie in his arms.

That wasn’t the only bad news for Will. His father Pat (guest star Louis Herthum) was rushed to the hospital in “When To Let Go” for smoke inhalation from an apartment fire, and ultimately died. So will he lose someone else he loves?

Meanwhile, Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) successfully launched hybrid OR, but simultaneously dealt with his ex-girlfriend, Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling), whose behavior got more and more erratic. Though they briefly got back together during season 4, Connor realized that Ava was suspect in a number of situations.

They included possibly sleeping with his father to obtain funding for the hybrid OR, intentionally injuring herself in a surgery to gain Connor’s sympathy, faking a kidnapping, and most importantly murdering his father Cornelius Rhodes (recurring guest star D.W. Moffett) by giving him insulin.

When Connor rejected Ava’s renewed advances in the season finale, she stormed off leaving him—and fans—wondering how guilty she was.

Elsewhere, Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) reconciled while dealing with Ethan’s pregnant sister—but then found out April may be pregnant.

And Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) donated her kidney, only for that act of good to reveal that Maggie might have cancer! So there’s a cancer scare, a potential pregnancy, and an almost certain murder to resolve when Chicago Med returns.
