Chicago PD alum Josh Segarra has been cast in a new comedy pilot for NBC called Night School, which is based off of the 2018 film starring Kevin Hart.

If you were sad that Josh Segarra‘s Netflix show AJ and the Queen was cancelled after one season, you now have something to be happy about, as the Chicago PD alum has been cast in a new NBC pilot.

Josh has been cast as Teddy Walker in the NBC comedy pilot Night School, which is based off the 2018 film that starred Kevin Hart. Segarra is actually portraying the same character for the TV show that Hart did in the movie.

If you have seen the film, then you know the premise: adults take night school classes and unexpectedly bond over their experiences. That’s the same idea NBC is working with, as this pilot is being produced by Hart, along with Marlon co-creator Christopher Moynihan.

According to Deadline, Segarra will co-star alongside Shanola Hampton (Shameless). Hampton will portray Carrie Dawes, the night school teacher who was played by Tiffany Haddish in the 2018 film.

Ian Gomez, Collette Wolfe, James Earl and Joe Massingill were previously cast as other characters in the series.

Night School marks Josh Segarra’s return to NBC after his recurring role as Justin Voight on Chicago PD which began in 2014 and lasted until 2016.

After his character was tragically killed in the Chicago PD season 3 finale, fans will be excited to see him back on NBC airwaves, although it will be different to see him in a sitcom.

Segarra isn’t the first Chicago PD alum to be potentially working with NBC again. Jon Seda, who portrayed Antonio Dawson for seven years in the One Chicago franchise, was just cast in the lead role for La Brea, another NBC pilot. That gives Chicago PD fans two reasons to celebrate about the current pilot season.

Josh Segarra’s prior works aside from Chicago PD include Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, FOX’s holiday seriesThe Moodys, and the role of Adrian Chase/Prometheus on The CW’s Arrow.

Night School will be his first leading role in a pure comedy since Segarra starred as dim-witted cop Billy Cepeda in Sirens. Ironically, that show was set in Chicago, it aired on NBC’s sister channel USA, and it aired around the same time that Segarra was making his first appearances on Chicago PD! Though the show only lasted one season, you can still find a few clips on YouTube.
