Fans of Jon Seda were overjoyed recently to learn that the Chicago PD alum is rejoining the cast of the NBC drama series La Brea. After being dropped from the pilot last June, Seda was re-hired as the network ordered a full first season.

La Brea will mark the first time Jon Seda’s been back on NBC airwaves since exiting his role as One Chicago detective Antonio Dawson after Chicago PD season 6.

Producers decided not to bring him back for season 7, and he was replaced by Lisseth Chavez as Vanessa Rojas—who was then also replaced by Cleveland Berto as Officer Andre Cooper.

So what has Seda been doing all that time and where can you watch some of his more recent projects while waiting for the La Brea premiere?

What is Jon Seda doing now?

Understandably, with the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down many film and TV productions and then delays caused by those shutdowns, Jon Seda’s calendar hasn’t been nearly as busy as it normally would be (or should have been).

His biggest post-One Chicago news has been the release of the movie Canal Street, which was released to DVD and streaming in 2019, but actually filmed back in 2018.

The plot concerns a man who defends his son when the son is accused of murdering one of his classmates. It’s notable because it also stars two other Chicago PD alums: Mykelti Williamson (who recurred as Denny Woods and also recently directed an episode of Chicago Med) and Mekhi Phifer (who guest-starred in the season 5 episode “Captive” and went on to appear in Love, Victor opposite Sophia Bush).

You can rent or buy the movie digitally here.

Seda hasn’t popped up on TV since, but again, that’s likely due to scheduling. He was originally cast in La Brea back in March 2020, cut six months later, and then now brought back to portray the same character (formerly named Dr. Benjamin Glass; now renamed Dr. Sam Velez). There’s been so much back and forth with that project that it’s no surprise he hasn’t been super-active, plus it’s just been a slower time for film and TV releases overall.

But now with the disaster drama absolutely coming to NBC in the future—when has yet to be decided—Jon Seda will be back, and we’ll be able to enjoy his work on a weekly basis again, on the same network he just recently left.
