Chicago Fire is about to say goodbye to two key members of its ensemble, but it seems yet another familiar face’s return has been confirmed amid the forthcoming cast exits.
Filming on season 15 has been underway for several weeks now, and we’ve been getting exciting new updates via social media now that the cast is back on set. Of course, the biggest mystery that the start of production has been helping to solve is the fates of the Firehouse 51 firefighters involved in the season 14 finale cliffhanger that left us wondering whether everyone would make it out of the fire alive.
Gradually, through set photos from the cast and from those taken by fans, we’ve gotten confirmation on the returns of most of the show’s core ensemble. This has included the likes of Herrmann, Mouch, Vasquez, Capp, and Tony, whose fates have been confirmed thanks to appearances from David Eigenberg, Christian Stolte, Brandon Larracuente, Randy Flagler, and Anthony Ferraris in these various photos and videos. We’ve also gotten glimpses of several characters who we knew would be back, including Kidd, Severide, Violet, Novak, and Cruz, as well as Firehouse 51’s newest addition, Da’Vinchi.
Through it all, though, there has been one character who has been missing, leading us to worry that perhaps he might not survive the opening episode of the season. Thankfully, a new video from Jocelyn Hudon has confirmed that will not be the case!
On August 19, Hudon posted a fun dance video to her social media in which she pulled in several of her Chicago Fire co-stars to have a little fun between filming. Among those featured in the video are several actors who had been previously confirmed to return for season 15, as well as one member of the Firehouse 51 team who we’d yet to see on set: Leroy S. Williams!
Williams joined the fun in the video, but more importantly, his involvement in the video confirms that Ballard will survive the events of the season 15 premiere and does not die, as many had begun speculating could happen. This speculation stemmed mostly from the fact that we had not seen Ballard in any behind the scenes photos or videos, and he had not taken to social media to post about season 15. This led some to believe that the show might kill Ballard off in the season 15 premiere. Thankfully, we can now cross Ballard off the list and know he will be back for season 15.
At this point, we’re really starting to wonder if anyone might die in the premiere episode, but there are still two key names on our radar: Cruz and Pascal.
We’ve seen set photos that hinted Cruz will be severely injured during the fire, and we know that Joe Minoso is exiting the show, so that combination could spell trouble for Cruz’s future. However, we’ve seen photos of Minoso filming with fans that suggest he’ll survive the fire and leave 51 after the events of the fire.
Then there is Pascal. We know Dermot Mulroney only appears in the season 15 premiere, and while he was not in any danger as season 14 came to a close, we’ve seen Chicago Fire throw twists our way by reminding us to expect the unexpected. Knowing Pascal is only in the premiere, there is a real chance that he'll race into action to help those who previously worked under his command and might pay the ultimate price in helping to get them to safety.
There’s also the chance that no one will die in the premiere and our concern through the summer was for nothing. We’ll find out one way or another when Chicago Fire season 15 premieres on Wednesday, October 7, at 9/8c on NBC!
