Need to catch up before Chicago Fire season 8? Here’s a quick guide to every important moment to remember from Chicago Fire season 7.

Are you caught up with Chicago Fire? If you’re not, we’ve provided a Chicago Fire season 7 recap so you can quickly refresh your memory about every important moment from last season.

Chicago Fire season 7 started with the bittersweet end of Dawsey, when Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) returned to say goodbye to Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer). She was staying in Puerto Rico, and Casey mentioned later in the season that they had divorced.

Within a few episodes, Casey ignited a new romance with reporter Naomi Graham (recurring guest star Kate Villanova) when he helped her investigate a high-powered company responsible for trailer park fires. The company retaliated by setting Casey’s apartment on fire. While he and Naomi survived the fire, their relationship did not, as she too was leaving Chicago.

Casey ultimately moved in with Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), whose own romantic life was in trouble for most of season 7.

He nearly lost girlfriend Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) in the first One Chicago crossover when she was hospitalized, then things started to fall apart when Severide was jealous over one of Stella’s old friends.

He continued to lean on Stella throughout the season, especially in “What Will Define You” when his father Benny (guest star Treat Williams) passed away.

Stella tried to support Severide, but his grief became too much for their already fractured relationship to bear. They broke up in “Inside These Walls.” However, they reconciled in the season finale.

Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) joined Ambulance 61 in this season. Foster’s personal life became a plot point as her bisexuality was revealed in “A Volatile Mixture” and she was harassed by a doctor she dated in “The Plunge.”

Foster’s new partner Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). was in a brief relationship with chaplain Kyle Sheffield (recurring guest star Teddy Sears), but things fizzled out over blurred personal and professional lines.

Things became even more complicated in “Try Like Hell” when Brett developed feelings for Casey. As she tried to suppress them, Kyle surprised her in the season finale by proposing, and Brett surprised everyone by accepting.

While his firefighters dealt with personal issues, Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) handled professional ones in the person of Jerry Gorsch (recurring guest star Steven Boyer) who was sent to monitor Firehouse 51.

Boden started to turn things around when he overruled Gorsch’s choice for a new lieutenant and appointed Christopher Hermann (David Eigenberg) to lieutenant. He took back control of the firehouse by midseason, when it was revealed that Benny Severide’s last act had been to get the commissioner to call off Gorsch.

Then there was the almost obligatory season-ending cliffhanger, which was one of the biggest in Chicago Fire history.

Firehouse 51 was called to a factory blaze and everyone was trapped inside the inferno. Herrmann faced a boiler primed to explode with the help of Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri), while Squad 3 and Truck 81 were still trying to save civilians. Chicago Fire season 7 ended with without any indication of who may or may not survive, and that will be the question on everyone’s minds as the series returns to action.
