Sophia Bush is officially returning to TV.

CBS has picked up Bush’s new series Good Sam for a first season, according to multiple media reports on Friday evening.

In Good Sam, which was originally developed back in February 2020, Bush stars as the title character, a top-flight heart surgeon who gets a massive career break when her boss ends up in a coma. One big problem: her boss is also her father.

Jason Isaacs (Brotherhood, Awake) co-stars as the aforementioned father, while the rest of the regular cast also includes Chicago Fire alum Edwin Hodge.

Hodge, who recurred on Chicago Fire as firefighter Rick Newhouse, plays Sam’s friend Malcolm. Malcolm works at the hospital as an administrative assistant, though his family are the hospital’s most wealthy donors.

This will be Sophia Bush’s first starring role on television since leaving Chicago PD, where she starred as Detective Erin Lindsay. She’s since appeared on several shows in a guest capacity, and recurred on the Hulu series Love, Victor (which was renewed for season 2, so we’ll have to see if the pickup of Good Sam affects whether or not she continues there).

It also continues her relationship with CBS. Bush starred in another CBS pilot called Surveillance in 2019 that the network ultimately passed on, and she also appeared in a sitcom for them called Partners back in 2012—two years before she started her role on Chicago PD.

But if you’ve missed seeing Sophia on your TV every week, you’ll get to do that again soon. The Friday reports suggest that her new series will be on CBS’ fall schedule, though there’s no official word about that. If that is indeed the case, it should premiere in September.
